Rhythm, Pattern and Flow in Nature
The virtual Zoom workshop is designed for the dedicated, experienced silk painter and artist who wants to add to their technique and explore creative depths via exposure to Higgins’s methods and outlook. Participants are taken on a practical exploration of creative art practice which is reliant on intentional and intuitive outcomes to harmonize a silk painting.

Class Schedule
Friday 5th of November.
Meet in the morning from 9.30am to 10.30am.
Introduce ourselves, talk about the workshop, its purpose, expectations and outcomes. Make sure everyone is on the same page, have our materials and tools ready. A discussion on approach, some basic design and how to make a start. Participants are encouraged to explain their ways forward or what they want to achieve.
Saturday 6th of November.
Meet in the morning from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Demonstrate and discuss technique, methods, basic design and answer questions. Slideshow focused on technique, basic design and production.
Meet in the afternoon from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
Demonstration of technique, stretching silk for raised work and working on flat surfaces and the difference. How to problem solve. Open forum to address anything.
Sunday 7th November.
Meet in the morning from 9.30am to 11.30am .
Demonstrate and discuss technique, methods, basic design and answer questions.
Meet in the afternoon from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
Discuss work in progress, speak to issues, queries and problems as a group, Demonstration and explanation of technique and how to problem solve as the work unfolds.
Monday 8th of November.
Day off where participants can continue with their work.
Higgins is available all day to assist anybody who wants during that day.
Tuesday 9th of November.
Meet at 9.30am to 12.300pm
Final session.
An insightful studio tour. Demonstration of technique with regards special effects, answer questions and share final projects with positive critics and reflection.
About the artist
David Higgins is an artist / designer with over 40 years experience. He has a Masters Degree in Ecological Art and Design and focuses his art production on positive responses to the natural world. His art production is across the creative disciplines, Higgins works and exhibits extensively in Japan, China and the USA. In Australia he has worked for Universities, was resident artist for The Zoos Victoria, has produced postage stamp art and had many other commissions for advertising agencies, institutions and organizations. Higgins has a profile with Silk Painters International (SPIN) in the USA. He gave the keynote address to the SPIN conference in 2016 and regularly conducts workshops for them. He was also recognized as a Master Silk Painter by SPIN in 2019. Today his creative focus is on silk painting, textile design and sculpture at Nirranda Arts Studio.
